The Details of the Case

The fatal crash occurred on June 10th in South Austin at the intersection of Texas Oaks Drive and West Slaughter Lane.

A truck traveling westbound turned left in front of the victim leading to the crash. The driver of this vehicle was a 20-year-old male.

Bennett was declared dead at the scene while the negligent driver was arrested. The driver responsible for the incident was officially charged with intoxication manslaughter a few days later.

Understanding Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycle accidents are far more common than car accidents with 2019 federal estimates showing that motorcycles were 29 times more likely to be involved in an accident.

Because motorcycles are smaller, less visible, and offer less protection than traditional vehicles, victims of accidents are much more likely to face serious injuries.

Unfortunately, fatalities are often much more common for motorcyclists as head injuries are often deadly. Thus, it is essential for riders to wear a well-fitted helmet that can offer meaningful protection. Additionally, motorcyclists should consider using light-colored or reflective helmets so that other drivers can see them more easily at night.

Higher speeds and riskier driving are also associated with motorcycle fatalities. If you want to stay safe for years to come, be sure to drive slower and wear good protective gear. While you can’t avoid issues like intoxicated drivers, you can help prevent other accidents.

Other great tips for avoiding accidents on a motorcycle include:

  • always wear a helmet
  • wear reflective clothing
  • do not weave between cars
  • approach intersections slowly
  • drive slower in general
  • check behind you when you stop at lights
  • watch closely for road hazards

All of these tips can help you stay safe. Another great idea is to take a driving course. This can keep your skills fresh so you can react more quickly.
