The Deadly Buda Car Accident

According to the Buda Police Department (BPD), a driver died due to a crash that occurred at around 2:50 a.m. in Buda on Sunday, June 9. The accident happened in the 15000 block of the I-35 frontage road near Pinballz Kingdom.

Prior to the crash, the driver was traveling north on I-35. As BPD wrote in a post on Facebook, the driver exited the highway before the Main Street overpass before continuing across the east access road. At that point, the vehicle collided with a signpost and caught fire.

BPD reports that fire crews were able to put the fire out quickly. However, the driver had sustained fatal injuries and died on the scene.

The driver involved in this crash has yet to be identified. There were no other occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

What Time of Day Do Accidents Happen Most in Texas?

For drivers on the road, it’s important to take whatever care you can to avoid car accidents. One thing that drivers should keep in mind is avoiding driving during times of day when accidents are more likely. But when is that?

In Texas, the single hour with the highest number of fatal car accidents happens between 2 a.m. to 2:59 a.m. on Sundays, with a total of 72 deadly accidents seen during that hour on Sundays across Texas in 2023. In comparison, the second deadliest hour was between midnight to 12:59 a.m. on Sundays; and the third deadliest hour was between 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays. With this in mind, it’s clear that the most dangerous time for drivers is between 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. from Saturday night to Sunday morning.

However, the deadliest hours of the week don’t actually see the highest number of crashes. Instead, the highest number of crashes occurred between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Fridays. This means that, while more accidents happen on Friday evenings than on late Saturday into early Sunday, the accidents on Saturday and Sunday are more likely to be deadly.

One factor that could be contributing to the higher number of deadly accidents on Saturday night into Sunday morning is alcohol usage. By far, the highest number of Texas alcohol-related accidents in 2023 occurred between 2:00 a.m. and 2:59 a.m. on Sundays. Alcohol-related accidents are also far more likely to be deadly compared to other accidents, with 4% of Texas alcohol crashes being fatal compared to less than 1% of all Texas crashes.
